What are your plans over spring break? Going anywhere special? Staying home and hanging out with family and friends? Mr. Lane, Andrew, Matthew and I are going to be home all week. Andrew is going to stay home with me while Matthew will be in daycare. Mr. Lane will probably go to school for a few days to work. My plan is to do some spring cleaning (clean out closets, get the summer clothes together). Very exciting stuff! I will miss you all over break (you came so close to losing your spring break, what a relief it was put back on the calendar : ) See you in a week!

In language arts we are reading the story of “A Boy Called Slow.” Slow gets his name at a young age from his parents based on his characteristics and personality. If your parents were to have named you based on your personality and characteristics when you were 3, 4 or 5, what would they have named you (runny nose, drooly, big eater)? Why that name? Please write in complete sentences and share what you learned from your parents about yourself.

Hi everyone! I have added an IM (instant messaging) widget on the left side of the blog page. You can instantly see if I am on-line and available and can ask me questions and get immediate feedback. How great is that? We’ll need to come up with a schedule of sorts so you have an idea when I will be available. I will turn it on everytime I am on the internet as well but we do need to talk about a schedule. Enjoy and hopefully this will help you get extra help from me when you need it.

This Monday the nation is honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech is when he spoke of his desire for a future where all people would coexist harmoniously as equals. King’s delivery of the speech on August 28, 1963, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for jobs and freedom, was a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement. Some of the most memorable lines from his speech are:
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
What is your dream? What do you hope will occur during your lifetime? How can you work to help this dream come true?

Friends, family, home, food, kindness, etc. Is there anyone that you need to give a hug and let them know how much you love them and are thankful for all they do for you? WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?
It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against substance abuse. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, Oct 23rd – 31st. We have been talking about what red ribbon week means to us as a class. Why is it important to say no to drugs and alcohol? What would you rather do instead of drugs? Use this sentence helper: I would rather …… than do drugs. Mrs. Lane’s sentence would look like this: I would rather read a book than do drugs. Please answer the above questions and share any other thoughts that you have. Thanks for your comments!!!
